About John Veeken
I live and work in Fryerstown, near Castlemaine in central Victoria, Australia.

I have a background in illustration and graphic design. Sculpture has been a relatively recent pursuit and my favoured media are ceramics and barbed wire. I am still developing my ceramic skills but have concentrated my efforts on creating a wide variety of pieces with rusty old barbed wire that I collect from farms and properties in the district. I would descibe my work as whimsical and cartoon like.

My first success was winning the Mount Alexander Shire acquisitive prize in the Tonks Bros Sculpture Award in 2003 with a barbed wire dog aptly entitled "Dangerous Dog".

In January 2005 I exhibited a series of semi-relief barbed wire pieces with a marine theme as part of a mixed-media group exhibition called "Cinque - 5 artists" at Togs Cafe Gallery in Castlemaine. The show was a sell-out and generated many commissions.

March 2005 was when I finished the Northern White Rhinoceros and exhibited it as part of the "Flaming Giraffe and Friends" exhibition at the Lot 19 Studio Gallery during the Castlemaine State Festival.

The 2006 Mount Macedon Sculpture & Art in the Garden Event at "Tanglewood" features 3 works.

Selected works are also available from The Bold Garden Nursery in Castlemaine.
